Willowbrook Whispers #5 – Charlie McGettigan with support from MacHenry and The Dog Roses
We are delighted to present the first show of 2025 here at Willowbrook Glamping & Hideaways, Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon. Willowbrook Whispers #5 features one half of Ireland’s 1994 eurovision song contest winning performance, Charlie McGettigan as the headline act, with Ballyhaunis band MacHenry and The Dog Roses opening up for charlie on the night. We are very excited for what promises to be a magical evening of folk music here at Willowbrook.
Charlie McGettigan started his musical career in the 1960s in various rock bands in Donegal. Moving to Dublin in 1968 he honed in on the thriving folk scene there at the time. In 1973, Charlie formed the highly successful group Jargon, which went on to win the prestigious Letterkenny Folk Festival, following in the footsteps of bands like Clannad and Pumpkinhead.
Charlie joined forces with Paul Harrington and Brendan Graham to win the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest for Ireland with “Rock n Roll Kids”. He has released many solo albums including “In Your Old Room”, “Family Matters” “ The man from 20” and “Stolen Moments” produced in Nashville by legendary producer Bil Vorndick. Charlie’s songs have been recorded by many artists including De Danann, Mary and Frances Black, Ray Lynam, Daniel O’Donnell, Sandy Kelly and Hal Ketchum to name but a few.
MacHenry and The Dog Roses are a 3-piece folk band based in Mayo. The band consists of Ethan Henry (guitar and singing), Victoria Burcovschi (violin) and Elizabeth Burcovschi (piano and harp). The band name originates from a mix between Irish and Moldovan culture. ‘MacHenry’ stands for Henry and “The Dog Rose” is the national flower of Moldova, the country that Elizabeth and Victoria’s mother comes from. The bands first big break came from winning The Night and Day national song competition with their original song “Lost in Space”. The prize for winning this competition was a day recording in a studio in Dublin. They recorded and released their debut single “Lost in Space” in November of 2024. During November 2024 they also played support for UMAN to a sold out crowd in the Tf Royal Castlebar. The band prides themselves on playing original material that has a real meaning. Through music they discuss real topics in our very real world.
